We sell tyres for your City Bike, E-Bike, Road Bike, CX/Gravel Bike, Cargobike, kKids Bike and Mountain Bike!
We stock tyres from Maxxis, Pirelli, Schwalbe & CST and have over 100 different versions of tyre at home!
Having the right tyre on your bike for the time of year and the conditions can make a huge difference to the way the bike rides and ultimately makes for a better riding experience.
Ask us about what’s best for you! We’re a bit ‘geeky’ when it comes to (mountain bike) tyres! (well, Neil is!) Puncture resistance? Rolling resistance? Grip? Weight? Conditions? It’s a bit of a minefield! We’re happy to help! (although we’ll be quick to point out that there is no one ‘do it all’ tyre (for MTB..) So if you come and ask that question… “I’m looking for a tyre that rolls well, is light, doesn’t puncture, grips like mad and doesn’t cost very much… then don’t expect a serious answer!
In winter we would reccomend specific studded tyres for your commuter or mountain bike and Schwalbe tyres have a great range. Click here for Vinterdäck information and here for the current Winter campaigns.
OVERVIEW OF TYRES
City/Standard Bike
Generally these bikes have 28″ wheels (622mm) and tyre widths from 28mm to 60mm (28/30/32/33/35/37/38/40/42/43/45/47/50/55/60!) We try and simplify that for you and have 4 widths (37/40/43/47mm) in 2 different types of tyre. A ‘standard’ and a ‘puncture protected’ version. Don’t worry too much about all these numbers… we have most things at home and there are a lot of other sizes that aren’t mentioned here. Easiest is as always, come in and let us take care of it.

Gravel Bike
Gravel tyres seems to go through phases and fads! Wide, wider… low knobs, soft rubber, extra protection, black, brown… you name it! We try and have all the relevant stuff at home from Pirelli, Maxxis and Schwalbe. Generally you’ll know roughly what you’re looking for, but if not – just ask! Always good to know the width of the tyre you have now and if you’re planning to go bigger (better, right?!) then check how much clearance you have between the tyres outer edge and the frame/fork.
We fit equally as many gravel tyres tubeless as we do with a tube. More and more with the new TPU style tubes (ask!) If you want to go tubeless we can of course help with that as well. A bit more about tubeless later…
Mountain Bike
Welcome to geek heaven! Compounds, casings, tread pattern, conditions, sizes… Your tyre really is your key to how your bike feels to ride (along with suspension setup, but that’s another way geekier post!) they are your contact point to the ground, they give feedback to you – so getting it right is important.
We have a big selection of Maxxis tyres (although only about 30% of what they actually offer!) and try to make a few decisions for you to reduce the choice. Again, it’s always going to be best to come in and talk to us about tyres, tell us what you have now, what you are happy/unhappy with, where you ride, in what conditions on what kind of bike… the list goes on. Generally we see many cusomters riding on tyres with way too little tread and way too much pressure, all in the pursuit of low rolling resistance. We’ll stop you there!
‘Generally’ a tyre with a bit more width and a bit less pressure will perfrom way better than that. As we mentioned earlier, there is no one ‘do it all’ tyre. There are ‘all rounders’, butthey will always be compromised. To get the best out of tyres, change them for the condition/type of trail or season (weather) at least. Don’t be afraid of ‘grip’! Grip can make you go faster, it’s no good with a fast rolling tyre that you fall off at every corner with, you waste a lot more time picking yourself up than you would if could have railed the turn in the first instance!
Running tubeless tyres on mountain bikes has been around for a while now and we we highly recommend going this way as it allows you to run lower tyre pressures for increased grip, particularly in wet muddy conditions, but the sealant in the tyres also provides puncture protection by filling any small holes in the tyre so you can keep riding. We’re pretty ‘proffsigt’ when it comes to tubeless. We’ll happily get you sorted with all the bits you need to do it yourself, or can fix it for you.
You can now go tubeless on road, cx and gravel bikes as the benefits are now appealing to other bike disciplines.
We sell tubeless setups from Peaty’s products.
As riders are running lower tyre pressures there is an increased risk of damaging the rim. To solve this issue tyre inserts sit inside the tyre and provide protection for the rim. Some tyre inserts, like Cushcore, also provide support for the sidewalls to increase cornering efficiency. We stock Cushcore and Cushcore XC version, for the weight conscious riders out there as well as Pepis Tyre Noodles.
